Dr. Albina Claps-Paglia

Dr. Albina (Abbie) Claps-Paglia passed away on January 5that the age of 95 of natural causes.

Born in New York City on September 20th, 1922 of Italian Immigrant parents, Vincent and Maria Claps. Following graduation from Wadley High School in NYC, she received a BA from Hunter College followed by an MD from New York Medical College in 1951.

During her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Lenox Hill Hospital, she met her husband, Michael Paglia MD and they were married in May of 1956. After Lenox Hill, Dr. Claps continued training in Pediatric Cardiology at NYU Bellevue under the tutelage of Dr. Janet Baldwin. On completion of her fellowship, Dr. Claps remained on staff at NYU Bellevue as attending Pediatric Cardiologist. At the same time she was Chairperson of the Pediatric Service of St. Vincent’s Hospital (Staten Island,NY), training residents to become future pediatricians.

In addition to her professional life, Dr. Claps and her husband managed to raise three children. She is survived by her spouse, Dr. Michael Paglia, children: Anne Curtin (Andrew), Susan Paglia MD (Philip Rogers), Arne Paglia (Judy), and grandchildren: Douglas, Gianna, Jemma, Kathleen, Christine, Leina, and Lauren.

In October of 2016, for health reasons, Dr Claps and her husband moved to Aspen Pointe in Bozeman, Montana to be near their daughter, Susan.

A Mass of Christian Burial followed by Cremation was held in Bozeman, January 10th.

On Saturday May 19, 2018 at 11 AM a Memorial Mass is planned on Staten Island, NY at OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL CHURCH, Victory Boulevard and Austin Place. To be followed by a Reprise Luncheon 1 PM at the Hilton Hotel Restaurant, 1100 South Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314.
