Barbara Van't Hul

August 1, 1935 ~ February 01, 2017

Service: April 22, 2017 2:00 PM
   Location: First Presbyterian Church

Barbara Anne Van’t Hul passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 1, 2017, in Bozeman, Montana. She was 81. Barbara was born in Charleston, West Virginia, on August 1, 1935, to Leilah and Ralph Ingram. She was the first of two children and is survived by her brother, Thomas Kruger of Boise, Idaho. After the death of her father, her mother remarried to Hans Kruger in 1949 and the family relocated to Boise, Idaho, where she graduated from Boise High School in 1953.

At a young age, Barbara discovered a passion for singing and was known throughout her life to sing not only in school and church choirs but also to solo for various services, social events and nursing homes. On one such occasion she met Arthur “Van” Willis Van’t Hul and, on April 23, 1955, they married and moved to Lewiston, Idaho. They were blessed with three children, David of Bozeman, Nancy (Dutch) of Olympia, Washington, and Brian (Trish) of Beaverton, Oregon; her grandchildren, Lynn (Aaron) Boyle of Roy, Washington and Ashley Boise, Idaho; and her great-grandchildren, Talon Boyle, LeiAyla Boyle and Koda Boyle.

The family spent many happy years in Lewiston, Idaho, during which time Barbara was very active singing and acting in local theater productions, directing the Youth Choir for the Methodist Church as well as sewing clothes and costumes for the kids and making elaborately decorated birthday cakes for the family.

In 1972 the family moved to Bozeman, Montana. Once the kids entered high school she also went back to school to study nursing and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She enjoyed several years working at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital and surrounding nursing homes. After retiring she continued her passions for choir, quilts and corgis. Many who knew her can say they have a handmade quilt or decorative wall hanging to remember her by. In later years she enjoyed making outrageous costumes for singing events and parades, traveling to see friends and realized a longtime dream to go to Egypt and cruise down the Nile.

Keeping active, making gifts for others and surrounding herself with family and friends gave her joy, which she eagerly shared with those around her.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m., on April 22, 2017, at Bozeman First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, 1549 E. Cameron Bridge Rd, Bozeman, MT 59718.
