David Stradley, 80, went to be in God’s arms on March 15, 2017, at his home in Belgrade, Montana.

He was born January 6, 1937, to Jim and Margaret Stradley in a log cabin near Colburn, Idaho.  His parents moved to Belgrade permanently in 1945 where David attended high school.  He later graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.

He became a pilot at age 16 and carried on the family business, Gallatin Flying Service, with his father, Jim, mother, Margaret, and his brother, Roger.  David taught many students to fly, instructed the Flying Bobcats, flew air ambulance, did crop dusting, flew charter flights, did wildlife surveys, and used his plane in search and rescue.  He retired in 1999.

David was very active in the community.  He was a member of the Gallatin Valley Sheriff’s Posse, and a founding member and Chairman for the Gallatin Valley Snowmobile Association where he helped to form the Gallatin Valley Search and Rescue team.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, hiking, and camping.  But most of all, he truly loved flying and helping wildlife regain their presence in the Park and surrounding area.

David was a husband, father, brother, uncle, and a friend to many people.  He will be missed and there will be some places and some things that will never be the same, but we will know that he will still fly over to check on us and will always be with us in our hearts.

David is survived by his wife, Peggy Stradley; son, Scott Stradley; daughter, Cheryl Stradley-Friend; and brother, Roger Stradley; sister-in-law, Ann Stradley; nieces, Anna Stradley and Lora Stradley; and many cousins.

Donations may be made in David’s name to the Gallatin Valley Snowmobile Association to benefit the Gallatin Valley Search and Rescue.  Please mail donations to Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service, 113 S. Willson Ave., Bozeman, MT 59715.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 21 at 2 p.m. at Belgrade Community Church.

"Chris, how do I ever find the words to properly or adequately thank you for your support and kindness during a very trying time.  You are a very special young man and have a wonderful way of making a very difficult time much more easy.  It was very comforting to deal with you.  You are a natural at your position.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
