Laurence Edward Michnevich

1928-2017

Laurence Edward Michnevich (Larry) was born in Newark, New Jersey on February 5, 1928, to Adam and Mary Michnevich.  He graduated from high school in Irvington, New Jersey and attended Seton Hall University before entering the United States Air Force, serving from January 31, 1946 to January 30, 1949 as a Sergeant USAF Weather Observer on the Aleutian Islands, Alaska.

Larry was married to Anna Elchenko on December 25, 1949.  They raised two children, Larry and Annamarie, in Farmingdale, New Jersey and then relocated to Colorado.

He worked as an Insurance Adjustor and Private Investigator when he and Anna lived in New Jersey, Colorado, North Carolina, Utah, and Montana.  The introduction of hunting and fishing at an early age by his father started a lifelong pursuit of hunting, dog training, and fishing.  When Larry was fishing, he could read a stream like no other and his casting would turn your head by its beauty.  He was a professional Russian Folk Dancer in his younger days in New Jersey, as well as a dance teacher.

Larry was a dog trainer and was instrumental in forming hunting dog clubs in Colorado and Utah, as well as the Missouri Headwaters Gun Dog Club in Bozeman, Montana.  He volunteered at the Bozeman Senior Center delivering Meals on Wheels, the Cancer Center in Bozeman, the Bozeman United Methodist Church, and the Heart of the Valley Animal Shelter, where his work was appreciated by every dog he spoke to.  He truly was “The Dog Whisperer”.

Larry is survived by his wife, Anna; son, Lars (Suzy) Michnevich of Boulder, WY; daughter, Annamarie Michnevich of Berlin, Germany; grandson, Forrest Michnevich of Boulder, WY; granddaughter, Twyla Michnevich of Grossmann, Germany; brother, Gerry (Denise) of Beiurut, Lebanon; nieces and nephews, AJ (Meghan) or Missoula, MT, Grace of Springfield, VT, Tanya Michnevich Bracco (Rich and daughter, Gabriella) of New York, NY, Natasha of Sarasota, FL, Toni Lavook of Linwood, NJ, Robert Russignola of Missoula, MT, Michelle Lavook of Woodbine, NJ, and J.J. Lavook of Montville, NJ; and cousins, Alice Novak of PA and Lenny Zuchowski of NJ.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel of Missoula, MT and niece, Bobbi (Ron) of Woodbine, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to the animal shelter of your choice or the Bozeman United Methodist Church.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Missouri Headwaters Park in Three Forks, MT.  All dogs are welcome.
