Barbara Wertz

July 21, 1931 ~ November 16, 2017

Service: November 20, 2017 2:30 PM
   Location: Aspen Pointe Senior Living

Barbara “Bobbie” Jean Anderson Wertz, died Thursday, November 16, 2017, in Bozeman, Montana. The daughter of Thomas and Stella Nona Anderson, she was born July 21, 1931, in North Platte, Nebraska.

Bobbie grew up in North Platte, Nebraska. She was active as a Camp Fire Girl. She was Senior Class Secretary, editor of the school newspaper and yearbook, and played clarinet at North Platte High School, graduating in 1949.  She served as a representative at a National Hi Y Teen Conference. While attending band camp in Colorado her senior year, she fell in love with the Rocky Mountains.  Bobbie decided to attend college at the University of Colorado in Boulder and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She married her college sweetheart, Ronald Duane Wertz, on March 18, 1951.  Bobbie put college on hold her Junior year so she could focus on raising five children. She valued education, returning to CU when her youngest started school, attending with her two oldest children, graduating in 1976 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

She was an avid CU Buffs supporter, attending football and basketball games and Buffalo Belles events for 60 years. She volunteered as an election judge, a “pink lady” in Radiology at Boulder Community Hospital, and in the Boulder Valley School System.

Among her many talents, she was a gourmet cook, an accomplished seamstress, and knitter.  Bobbie made most of her own clothing designing fashionable, fitted outfits.  She loved genealogy, researching her Scottish and Irish heritage.

Whether it was a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park to listen to the elk bugle, a visit to Durango to see family, landing on a glacier in Alaska, walking along the Great Wall of China, watching polar bears in Churchill, Canada, or petting a wild rhino on an African Safari; she loved to travel.

Bobbie was a loving mother and grandmother, cherishing time with her family and friends, playing cards (especially winning at Spades), singing around the piano or sharing a nice meal.  After her husband’s death, she moved to Bozeman, Montana, to be closer to her youngest granddaughters. She thrived in the Aspen Pointe Senior Living Community.  She made many dear friends, participating in Timely Topics, Smart Women and book club, and attending lectures and concerts. She instilled a love of music and theater in her family. She attended seasonal opera performances in Central City, CO, Santa Fe, NM, Houston, TX, Bozeman, MT, and Sydney, Australia.

Survived by her children, Rick Wertz (Kathy) of Lafayette, LA, Sheryl Wertz (Bob Morrow) of Boulder, CO, Judy Bolton (Harry “Scooter”) of Durango, CO, Chip Wertz (Sue) of Centennial, CO, and Kris Hall (Jim) of Bozeman, MT; grandchildren, Alexis Wertz, Andrew Wertz, Jasper Bolton, Matt Wertz, Becky Wertz, Sarah Bolton, McKinley and Laina Hall, Lon and Kendall Smith, Will Morrow, Jon Morrow (Melanie), Pam Sien (Jay); and great-grandchildren, Maya Sien, Delia and Arleigh Morrow. Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

A Memorial Service will be held in Bozeman, Montana, on Monday, Nov. 20th at 2:30 p.m. at Aspen Pointe Senior Living Hillcrest, 1201 Highland Blvd, Bozeman, MT 59715.

Services in Colorado will be held Friday, Nov. 24th, at Crist Chapel, 3395 Penrose Place, Boulder, CO 80301, with viewing at 10 a.m., service at 10:30 a.m., and interment at 1p.m. at Green Mountain Cemetery, 290 20th St., Boulder, CO 80302.

In lieu of flowers, the family of Barbara Wertz would appreciate contributions be made to the following organizations:  Bozeman Health Foundation, specifically for the Bozeman Health Cancer Center that took wonderful care of her; 931 Highland Blvd., Suite 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715; First Presbyterian Church Endowment, P.O.
