William “Bill” Clyde Franks

Bill Franks was born in Livingston, MT, on January 29, 1945.  His life was tragically taken from him at the age of 72 on November 21, 2017.

Bill grew up in Livingston, graduating from Park High School and Montana State University.

He served in the Army from 1969 to 1972, transporting intelligence and deciphering codes while stationed in Malta and Naples.  After the Army, he earned a master’s degree at MSU and taught in Australia before returning to Bozeman. His plan to return to Australia changed when he met and married Jamie. They would raise three children together.

Bill started teaching at Bozeman High School in 1975.  His legacy includes the thousands of students he taught and mentored during his 32 years there, first as an English and psychology teacher and then as associate principal.  His psychology class was so popular, limits had to be placed on how many students could enroll in it.

He was a man of faith, an active member and treasurer at Bozeman’s Grace Bible Church and a volunteer at Clydehurst Christian Ranch south of Big Timber.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Estil and Bessie Franks; brother, Garret Franks; and sister, Rhonda Franks Wiltgen.

He leaves behind his wife, Jamie; daughter, Sunday; son, Tyler; and son, Tanner, sister, Margaret (Peter) Napthine of Livingston, MT; sister, Loretta Goben of York, NE; sister, Nona (Ray) Horsley of Chicago, IL; brother, Estil (Diane) Franks of Glendive, MT; brother, John (Deb) Franks of Livingston, MT; sister, Kathy (Rick) Bailey of Austin, MN; sister-in-law, Sheila Franks of Livingston, MT; and brother-in-law, Stephen Wiltgen of Livingston, MT.  He also leaves behind sixteen nieces and nephews who fondly remember their uncle Clyde for his fun but gentle spirit.

A memorial service will be held at Grace Bible Church in Bozeman at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, with a reception to follow.  Burial will be at Park View Cemetery, 3004 East River Road, Livingston, MT 59047 at 2:30 p.m. the same day.
