Dr. Albina Claps-Paglia

Dr. Albina (Abbie) Claps-Paglia passed away on January 5, 2018 at the age of 95 of natural causes.  

Dr Claps was born in New York City on September 20, 1922 of Italian Immigrant parents, Vincent and Maria Claps. Following graduation from Wadley High School in NYC, she received a BA from Hunter College followed by an MD from New York Medical College in 1951.  

During her internship and residency in Pediatrics at Lenox Hill Hospital, she met her husband, Michael Paglia MD and they were married in May of 1956.  Dr. Claps then completed a Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at NYU Bellevue, under the tutelage of Dr. Janet Baldwin.  For the next 35 years she continued as attending cardiologist at Bellevue, while also serving as Chairperson of the Pediatric Department of St. Vincent’s Hospital (Staten Island, NY), training residents to be future pediatricians.  

In October of 2016, for health reasons, Dr Claps and her husband moved to Aspen Pointe in Bozeman, Montana to be near their daughter, Susan.

A  Catholic Funeral Mass and Cremation was held at Holy Rosary Church in Bozeman on January 10th.                                    
Dr. Claps is survived by her beloved husband, Michael; three children, Anne Curtin (Andrew) Rye NY, Susan Paglia MD (Philip Rogers) Bozeman, MT , Arne Paglia (Judy) Peekskill NY, and seven grandchildren: Douglas, Gianna, Jemma, Kathleen, Christine, Leina, and Lauren.


On Saturday May 19, 2018 our family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass and Luncheon Celebration on Staten Island at OUR LADY OF GOOD COUNSEL CHURCH, 11AM, Victory Boulevard and Austin Place. The reprise luncheon will be held at 1 PM at the Hilton Hotel Restaurant, 1100 South Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10314.
