Donald Wayne Lutes

3/10/1947 - 9/11/2018

Lutesy passed away on the evening of September 11, 2018, with his loving granddaughter, Hailey, by his side. He had had heart procedure in July, sadly his old heart could not keep going. He always said, “If I can't eat what I want, what's the point of livin’”. The last words he heard were his granddaughter telling him “I love you so much!”

Born and raised in Bozeman, he spent his entire life here. He was known and loved by all, he never met a stranger. He worked hard his whole life, often working multiple jobs at a time. He began his working career at Audrey’s Pizza Oven, he managed Little Johns and Hipshots for many years. He owned The Broken Arrow bar in Manhattan for a short time. He worked as a milkman, delivering fresh milk to people's homes. For the past 30 years Don worked at Golden Route Operations. He was a member of the National Guard, and he ran the Bozeman Pool League for many years. He was still employed by G.R.O. at the time of his death.

Don’s mother, Dorothy, passed away very soon after his birth. He was then raised by his great-grandparents, and his grandmother, Eunice Knox. He married Annette (Maroney) Boles in 1967. They had three children, Monica, Andrea, and Darren. They later divorced. He was also married to Karolyn Shorten, they later divorced. He had a great relationship with her boys, Chris and Andy, he loved them as if they were his own.

Don enjoyed playing Bingo at the senior center in in Belgrade every Thursday and morning coffee with his buddies. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather, and a fixture in the community. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Don is survived by his daughter, Monica (Lutes) Schneider and son-in-law, James Schneider; daughter, Andrea Lutes; and son, Darren Lutes; grandchildren, Zade and Cierra Pollington, Hailey Brunckhorst, Braden Badura and Micky and Madelyn Lutes; and three great-grandchildren; and his sweet dog, Emma.

Don was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (Lutes) Harrison; father, Alva Harrison; grandmother, Eunice Knox; and his beloved dog, Ernie.

Visitation will be held Monday, September 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service with a Celebration of Life Open House to follow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service.  Interment to take place at Sunset Hills Cemetery afterwards.

"A heartfelt thank you from us to you.  The whole thing was handled beyond our expectations.  Even a lot of the crowd commented how well it was done.  It all turned the pain into joy and the tears were ones of happiness."
