Delores Kottwitz

January 19, 1930 ~ February 12, 2018

Service: February 16, 2018 11:00 A.M.
   Location: Hope Lutheran Church

Delores A. Kottwitz, 88, of Bozeman passed away Monday, February 12, 2018.  She was born January 19, 1930, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Martin and Clara (Syverson) Dokken. Delores was the second of five children

In the fall of 1948, Delores met Henry B. Kottwitz before graduating from Willmar High School in the spring of 1949.  Delores and Henry were married January 28, 1950, and made their home in Willmar, MN. Together they had five children—one daughter and four sons.

In the early 1950’s Delores worked for Bell Telephone Company in Willmar, MN as a switchboard operator. With the start of her family Delores chose to stay home to raise her five children—she was a devoted and loving mother, always there waiting for them to return from school each day.

In the fall of 1968 the family moved to Bozeman, MT and for a short time Delores worked for JC Penney and then went on to work for the Multilith Department at MSU where she retired in July of 1993 after 23 years. Delores then began her retirement years of enjoying time with family, friends, and most of all her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Delores made many trips to Minnesota to spend time with her sister, Janet, and brothers, Jim and Don. Delores was a member of the Red Hat Society and delighted others all “decked-out” in her red and purple. She was active and volunteered at the Bozeman Senior Center, R.S.V.P., and Hope Lutheran Church. Delores enjoyed baking for friends and family, gardening, water aerobics, and—of course—BINGO!

Delores was so proud of her children and their accomplishments in life, she would share their stories time and time again, to all who would listen. She never missed the school activities for her grandchildren showing her enthusiasm, support, and love. Delores cherished every family gathering and made sure that there was always an abundance of her specialties, including her magnificent desserts. As a tribute to their grandmother, Delores’s grandchildren have made her favorite waffle turtle cookies for her Celebration of Life.

For the past three-and-a-half years, Delores could be seen walking the halls and swinging her purse as a resident of Brookdale at Springmeadows. Delores was funny, witty, and loved by everyone! She participated in every activity and if you were to ask her she would tell you that she worked at Springmeadows. Delores was always proud to introduce you time and time again when you came for a visit as if it was the first introduction, always making sure that people knew who her family was.

Everyone loved Delores’s wit and humor, and her infectious smile was the first one you would see when coming through the doors at Springmeadows. A special thank you and gratitude to the staff at Springmeadows and the Hospice of Bozeman Health team for the care and love they gave our mother.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Sam) Ferraro; sons, Allan Kottwitz, Barry (Darla) Kottwitz, Mark (Lori) Kottwitz, and Jeff (Jennifer) Kottwitz; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Allen) Hillstrom of Willmar, MN; brothers, James (Hilde) Dokken, and Don (Janet) Dokken, also of Willmar, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; parents, Martin and Clara Dokken; sister, Arlene Sharstrom; and great-grandson, Payton Tweden.

A Celebration of Life well be held Friday, February 16, at 11:00 A.M. at Hope Lutheran Church.

Memorials can be sent to Hospice of Bozeman Health, 3810 Valley Commons Dr Suite 1, Bozeman, MT 59718.

"I just wanted to thank you for all your help with my dad's funeral.  Planning a funeral can be very stressful, but you took such care that we were never confused or stressed about anything.  It was so easy to call and talk with you and ask questions.  You presented all the options to us clearly to let us decide about things, and then you made them happen at the service so we didn't have to do anything.  You are so very good at your job."
