Iris Young

March 1, 1920 ~ February 18, 2018

Iris Marie Tyler Young was born to Lyle Eugene Tyler and Amanda Elizabeth Kline on a farm in Union County, Iowa, on March 1, 1920.   She passed away peacefully at home in Three Forks, MT on February 18, 2018, following a short illness.

She married Phillip Samuel Young on February 7, 1941. They lived on a small farm near Afton, Iowa where their only son, Mark, was born.  In 1946 they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where their daughter Brooke was born.

In 1952 they returned to farming in Iowa, where Devon was born.  They moved back to Albuquerque in 1955 and Jaynan was born there.   Iris and Phil remained in Albuquerque.  They provided a warm and welcoming home for their children, grandchildren, extended family, numerous friends, acquaintances and the occasional stranger.

In 2000, daughter Devon and husband Greg Frost generously invited Iris and Phil into their home.  Following Phil’s death in 2002 Devon and Greg devoted themselves to caring for Iris.

During this time Iris continued to play the piano for several local nursing homes, gave presentations on aging gracefully and, and in her late 80’s overcame her lifelong fear of water by taking swimming lessons.

In 2013 Iris moved to Three Forks, Montana to live with daughter Brooke and husband George.

Throughout her life, Iris displayed kindness, compassion, resilience, a positive attitude and unconditional acceptance of others.  She had an unfailing sense of humor and quick wit. She made friends easily and maintained contact with many via letters, cards, and phone.  She consistently remembered and sent an acknowledgment of birthdays and other special occasions.  At the time she fell ill she was preparing valentines for grandchildren and friends.  Iris was always concerned with the happiness and welfare of others and never wanted to impose.

She always expressed love and appreciation to her children:  Mark Young (Joylene), Denton, TX; Brooke Chancellor (George), Three Forks, MT; Devon Frost (Greg), Albuquerque, NM; Jaynan Chancellor (Russ), Logan, UT and grandchildren: Amanda Mefford (Jake), Mark Lyle Young Jr., Lindsey Young (Jade), Emily Young, Summer Davidson (Dion), Heather Burt (Earl), Derek Swofford (Nicole), Greg Frost, Jr. (Shauna), Hyrum Chancellor (Stephanie) and Ford Chancellor and great grandchildren Caleb and Cameron Mefford; Corey, Jenna and Randall Davidson; Harper, Presley and Josie Swofford; and Elliana Frost.

In keeping with her wishes, her body was donated to science.  No services are planned.

Memorial donations may be sent in her name, to:

"Thank you for all you did for us regarding our Dad's funeral.  I know many times you went the extra mile for us and we appreciate it.  As hard as it was, you made the planning easier.  Chris, you have a gift and may you continue to bless people.  We will always be grateful for you."
