Dennis Franz

November 18, 1942 ~ April 15, 2018

Dennis (Denny) Franz was born in Chicago, IL, to Norman and Dorothy Franz. He moved with his family to Sioux City, IA, as a child where he later met and married his high school sweetheart, Mary, in June of 1964.  They had a daughter, Christine, born in Yankton, SD, in 1965 and a son, Jameson (Jamie), born in Sioux City, IA, in 1969.

The family moved to Lincoln, NE, to start a successful insurance career. As required to live in Nebraska, they all became rabid Cornhusker fans to this day. While attending Indian Hills Community Church, Denny and Mary accepted Christ as their personal Savior and their grand adventure began.

After vacationing in Yellowstone National Park, the decision to move west was made and coincidently the family landed in the heart of the best fly-fishing in the west. The entire family drove, skied, hiked, camped and fished (mostly fished) almost every corner of Montana. For 40 years, he fell in love with every moment on the rivers of Montana, a gene obviously passed to his children and grandson, Cameron. He had a fisherman's memory of every fish caught and every fly tied. Denny and Cameron spent countless hours hunting and fishing as well as at E-Free Church in Grandpa's Sunday School class. He was blessed to have made countless friends in his life — some of them even non-fishermen!

Denny went home to be in the presence of the Lord on April 15, 2018, and to be reunited with his son, Jamie.  A family celebration of life will take place on the rivers he loved.   “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever”.  (Psalms 23:16)

Survivors include his wife, Mary Franz of Bozeman; daughter, Christine (Michael) Code of Bozeman; grandson, Cameron (Rachel) Franz of Bozeman; brothers, Rod (Bev) Franz of Lenexa, KS; John (Linda) Franz of Chandler, AZ; half-brothers, Brad (Laurel) Boyer of Monument, CO; Bill Franz of Loveland, CO; Norm Franz of Denver, CO; half-sister, Debbie Boyer of Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law, Jean (Val) Podraza of Orange, CA; Linda (Greg) Brand of Sioux City, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by stepfather and mother, Russ and Dorothy Boyer; father, Norman Franz; and son, Jameson (Jamie) Franz.

Private family services will be held.

"We greatly appreciate your help with the service.  Rachelle, your guidance and thoughtfulness made difficult decisions easier and helped to personalize the service.  Marilyn, you went above and beyond, securing an ideal reception location and helping throughout the luncheon.  T.J., thank you for your help during the service and the transition to the reception.  The DVD of photos & music will be loved for years to come.  We were all very pleased with dad's service and know we couldn't have done it without your help."
